Farmville Road Trip Crazies Recap

As I stood in the middle of South Bridge Street in Farmville, VA on Sunday evening, I could not help but tear up a bit.  “Feeling The Feeling” not only never gets old; I think it actually gets better.  I was emotionally drained and physically exhausted, but I felt an energy that is hard to describe.  Those of you who have worked on a Road Trip Crazies Blitz know what I am talking about.

During a 36 hour period, a wildly diverse group of nearly 300 people put their hands together to help build homes with two good families in need of a little assistance.  Many of us will never meet again and we may never see the families who are buying these homes again.  But, for those 36 hours we were one.  For those 36 hours, we showed that we know what is important.  For those 36 hours, we gave of ourselves to move the world just one step on.  For those 36 hours, we demonstrated what compassion combined with passion can achieve.

There are plenty of people I want to thank for putting together this event that allowed me to again “Feel The Feeling”.  There is no way I can thank the hundreds involved individually, but I do want to somehow thank everyone.  Special Thanks go out to the following-

The Hearn Family and the Green Family,

The Habitat Staff and Board

The City of Farmville

The People of Farmville

The Road Trip Crazies

My Family

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you for allowing me to share this event with you.

This recap is near the end but our work is just beginning.  Your assignment, should you decide to accept it, involves four simple tasks-

1. Spread the word about the power of the heart.      Jacob Hear looking through the window of his new home

2. Create happiness by helping others “Feel The Feeling”

3. Laugh, Smile, Grin and Giggle

        and last but not least…

4. Don’t Hurt Tom

In closing, I ask you to look at the picture of Jacob in the window of his new room.  Nothing more needs to be said.

Peace,

         Tom
