How Does A Family Qualify for a Home?
Families must submit an application to Habitat’s Family Selection Committee. The committee chooses homeowners based on housing needs, willingness to partner with Habitat, and ability to make mortgage payments to Habitat. The committee also follows a non-discriminatory policy of family selection. The Board of Directors makes the final approval of partner’s families.
In order for a family to qualify for a Habitat house, they must meet the following conditions:
-
Currently live in substandard housing
-
Have an annual family income of 50% or less of the area’s median income
-
Be willing to partner with Habitat of Humanity by giving 300 hours of “sweat equity” by working on other Habitat homes, working on their house or another Habitat project
-
Be able to pay a monthly mortgage of approximately $300 per month
-
Have lived in the Prince Edward/Farmville Area for the previous year.
You and your family will be considered if your total monthly income falls within the following limits:
| Number in family |
